Kirstin's Chronicles

Welcome to the chronicles of my adventures. As I journey with the Lord I hope to share about the people along the way and all that I learn.

Housesitting 101

The last few weeks I have been house sitting for an American family that was back in the States. But the adventure started on the day I arrived. Zach drove me out to the house and was helping me move all of my stuff since I needed to move out of my flat. I had a set of keys to get into the gate and then the house but as I put the key in the lock it would not budge. We walked all around the house and not a single place could we get in. We had to call the landlord and ask him to come out and see about getting into the house.

I guess I should explain a little something about Hungarian locks. You have to have a key to lock and unlock the door from both the inside and outside. However if you leave the key in the lock on the inside of the door no one can get in. Well the people who were staying here before me had accidentally left the key in the door and went out through the garage with the automatic door closing behind them. So we were stuck.

Thankfully they had also left a small window partially opened. Zach said "I can get through that". So after a trek by the landlords son to get a ladder and a trip to another house to try a different garage door opener we decided that the only solution was Zach attempting the unimaginable and crawling through a small window and getting into the house to turn off the alarm and let us in.

As you can see from the pictures above the window was very small and I can't believe it worked but we got in a couple hours after my first attempt to unlock the door.

Below you can see the three animals I had the chance to be with the last few weeks. But it has been great to get some rest and relax as tomorrow I head out to Keszthely to begin SpeakOut.
