Welcome to the chronicles of my adventures. As I journey with the Lord I hope to share about the people along the way and all that I learn.

Keeping first things first

I have been reading a book by Larry Crabb called "Soul Talk". To say that it is challenging is an understatement. I am not sure I even completely grasp all that he is talking about much less understand how to fully live it out in my life. But I am loving the challenge to desire the presence of God beyond anything else and to help others do the same. There was a quote he used from Augustine which says "There can be only two basic loves, the love of God unto the forgetfulness of self, or the love of self unto the forgetfulness of God." As I was reading this morning in John 12 about Mary and the pouring of the jar of perfume on Jesus I am again reminded of the pure and utter devotion of worship that is lavish and completely surrendered. What a wonderful picture of a love that is selfless and focused on Jesus no matter the cost.

So a question that Crabb asks is "What do we most want to see happen in others as we hear them share their journey?". A great question to ask myself as well as when I hear others. Do I want them to experience and desire God above all else or do I want them to have a life that works? He quotes C.S. Lewis saying "You can't get second things by putting them first; you can get second things only by putting first things first." Something to continue to ponder.
