Welcome to the chronicles of my adventures. As I journey with the Lord I hope to share about the people along the way and all that I learn.

A Conversation with a Teacher

Today at Burger King I met a private English teacher. She had grown up in Australia but came back to Hungary when she was ten years old. So we had an interesting conversation about culture and how that effects students and how they learn and respond. Also we discussed the different dynamics that take place within the classroom. Timi, the Hungarian staff girl I work with, was there as well. So it was a fun time and sharing what I had observed as an American here in Budapest and what they see in their own country.

So I shared with them my experience with the gym and the unbelievably complicated routines that the instructors have us do. As they shared in my laughter they understood how I see that many things here are truly complicated when maybe it is not necessary. They shared with me about the language and how it is considered especially clever if you talk in really complicated ways and use the most complex way to say something.

We also looked at people's perceptions of Americans and what that looks like.
It was a really fascinating conversation and a time of just learning more about students and how best to communicate truth with them and engage them.

So that is just a little picture of the culture. I am having fun trying to figure it out and someday I think I might just actually master the aerobics routine or just take up running.
