Helping with the Flood Relief

A little over a month ago I had the chance to go down and help with the clean-up effort in Centralia after the flooding in November. The pictures on television do not do the damage justice. It is heart breaking to see the amount of devastation to the homes and businesses in the area.

We were able to help clean up a house that the basement was completely full of water as well as part of the upstairs. In the pile of debris that we were loading into a truck to take to the dump were kids toys and Christmas ornaments. As well there were many items that I could not distinguish from the amount of mud that covered them.

Since we were on a farm we also helped the owner transfer about 50 bales of hay to where his surviving sheep were being kept. The stories he shared about the loss of his animals and yet the amazing kindness of neighbors and the community were humbling.

After that day I rode home exhausted. In my heart I knew that what I was experiencing paled in comparison to the strength the family must find as everyday they look out at their home and farm and look to the clean up effort that will take months to finish.

Please keep them in your prayers and if you desire to find out more please let me know so I can pass along information of how to help.
