Kirstin's Chronicles

Welcome to the chronicles of my adventures. As I journey with the Lord I hope to share about the people along the way and all that I learn.

Keeping first things first

I have been reading a book by Larry Crabb called "Soul Talk". To say that it is challenging is an understatement. I am not sure I even completely grasp all that he is talking about much less understand how to fully live it out in my life. But I am loving the challenge to desire the presence of God beyond anything else and to help others do the same. There was a quote he used from Augustine which says "There can be only two basic loves, the love of God unto the forgetfulness of self, or the love of self unto the forgetfulness of God." As I was reading this morning in John 12 about Mary and the pouring of the jar of perfume on Jesus I am again reminded of the pure and utter devotion of worship that is lavish and completely surrendered. What a wonderful picture of a love that is selfless and focused on Jesus no matter the cost.

So a question that Crabb asks is "What do we most want to see happen in others as we hear them share their journey?". A great question to ask myself as well as when I hear others. Do I want them to experience and desire God above all else or do I want them to have a life that works? He quotes C.S. Lewis saying "You can't get second things by putting them first; you can get second things only by putting first things first." Something to continue to ponder.

A New Year!

So it is already part way through January and I still have yet to post on my blog. It is funny realizing that when I was living oversees it seemed so much easier to share about my life and what was happening. Now that I am back in the States life is still interesting to me but for some reason I don't take the time to write my thoughts. I am hoping with this new year will bring with it the resolve to write a few more stories and memories down to share.

A quick update is that I am still working with students all over the Seattle area. I love their hearts and the way the Lord is transforming their lives into something so beautiful that only He can do.

Here are a few girls that I get to see each week. They are such a joy to be around.
Hopefully I will have more pictures and stories soon.
